With evolution in medical science and surgery, now we can completely alter one’s face and change his or her look likes. On such surgery which involves alteration, reconstruction or restoration of human body parts is called the Plastic surgery. It is mainly classified into two categories, one is reconstructive and other is Cosmetic or Aesthetic surgery.
The craniofacial, microsurgery, hand and the treatment of burns are called reconstructive surgery which aims to reconstruct a body part or enhance its functional capabilities, while in aesthetic or cosmetic surgery improving the appearance of the body parts are important.
The term “plastic” in plastic surgery defines reshaping derives from the Greek word plastike which means “the art of modelling”.
The Indian father of Surgery, Sushruta in one of his books Charaka Samhita – depicted important notes on plastic and eye surgery. He is one of the known oldest surgeons in the world whose works are still helping and shaping the modern science of plastic and aesthetics surgery.
The father of modern plastic surgery, Sir Harold Gillies who was from New Zealand developed many of the techniques for plastic surgeries especially facial surgeries. He developed such techniques to help out the wounded soldiers form First World War suffering from disfiguring facial injuries.
As we discussed earlier Plastic surgery is a broad field and may be subdivided further.
- Aesthetic surgery
- Burn surgery
- Pediatric plastic surgery
- Craniofacial surgery
- Hand surgery
One of the essential components of plastic surgery is the Aesthetic surgery which involves facial and body parts its artistic impact, appearance or beauty. The cosmetic surgical principles are followed by the surgeons in all the surgical procedures for reconstructive and isolated operations so as to improve the overall beauty of the body parts and appearance as well.
There are two phases of the Burn surgery. One is the Acute burn surgery apllied immediately after a burn and second one is the Reconstructive burn surgery which is generally done when the burn wounds of the patient have almost healed.
Craniofacial surgery is subdivided into pediatric and adult craniofacial the pediatric craniofacial surgery mostly revolves around the treatment of congenital anomalies of the craniofacial skeleton and soft tissues and adult craniofacial surgery deals mostly with fractures and secondary surgeries.
A very complicated and specialized surgery which involves the reconstruction of the site by transferring the missing tissues to the reconstruction site including the connection of small blood vessels is called the Microsurgery. The Microsurgery has its own subspecialties. Breast reconstruction, head and neck reconstruction, brachial plexus surgery and hand surgery/replantation are few popular subspecialty.
Pediatric plastic surgery is a different medical case than that of an adult patient. These can be Birth defects or Syndromes which are generally treated in the childhood for better results. Commonly treated conditions by pediatric plastic surgeons in such cases include Syndactyly, craniofacial, Polydactyly, anomalies, congenital hand deformities and cleft lip and palate.
Few popular topics in trending in Aesthetics and Dermatology conferences are:

- Aesthetic Dermatologic Surgery Pearls
- Plastic Surgery and Emerging Aesthetic Trends in Plastic Surgery
Participating in conferences which are specifically designed for such topics can be very help for those who want to specialize in streams like, dermatology, skin therapist, aesthetics, plastic surgery and venereology. Conference like World Cosmetic and Dermatology Conference focuses on wide range of topics to be discussed at the scientific sessions and provides opportunity for networking with the international doctors, researchers and experts.
Anti-ageing medicine, rhinoplasty, cosmetology and lipo suction & fat transfer are the main topic of attraction for the World Dermatology Conference and World Cosmetic and Skin care conference 2019. Abstract Submission are still open for the conference and can be submitted at : http://dermameet.episirus.org/abstract-submission/.
